Amid growing concerns about housing affordability and lagging residential construction, the Housing Lab will launch a new professional course on Housing Markets, Residential Development and Urban Area Development in October 2026. The programme draws on leading economic research to provide professionals with a clearer understanding of how the Dutch housing market functions and how policy can effectively respond to current challenges.
The course is designed for professionals working at municipalities, provinces, housing associations, property developers, consultancy firms and other organisations involved in housing and urban development. Participants will gain practical tools for local housing market analysis, insight into urban development business cases, and methods for evaluating housing policies.
Topics include housing price dynamics in both the rental and owner-occupied sectors, accessibility, construction costs, regulation, land values, affordability and social housing. Special attention will be paid to the interaction between owner-occupied, private rental and social housing markets, as well as the impact of new housing developments on neighbourhoods and residents.
The programme combines concise lectures with case discussions and hands-on exercises. Throughout the course, participants will work on a continuous case study based on a municipality or development area, allowing them to directly apply theory to real-world challenges. The programme will be taught in Dutch.
